UCL has a responsibility to provide a safe working environment for its staff. This includes taking all reasonable steps to ensure that staff do not work excessive hours in accordance with the maximum weekly hours limit set out in the Working Time Regulations 1998.  Following a thorough consultation process with all of our stakeholders, UCL HR have launched a new Working Hours Policy which sets out the normal hours of work for different categories of staff and UCL’s other responsibilities under the Working Time Regulations

The new policy also provides information on what UCL’s approach is if you have more than one job (including secondary appointments outside of UCL) and the process to opt out of the 48-hour working week, if this is relevant to your role and/or you have a second job where your total weekly hours exceed  48 hours per week.

If you have any queries about the new policy and its implementation, please contact the Policy Team in the first instance.
