New Pay Protection Scheme pilot for redeployees

15 December 2025

After consultation with key stakeholder groups, including People and Culture Committee, and our recognised trade unions, we are pleased to introduce a Pay Protection Scheme pilot as part of the Redeployment Policy.

After consultation with key stakeholder groups, including People and Culture Committee, and our recognised trade unions, we are pleased to introduce a Pay Protection Scheme pilot as part of the Redeployment Policy.

The pilot will run for 12 months from Monday 5 January 2026 and will protect the salary of an employee who is at risk of redundancy if they accept a position which is one grade lower than their current role, for up to 24 months.

This will allow employees to continue their employment with UCL with a period of financial certainty while they plan for a reduction in salary up to 24 months ahead and ensures UCL is able to retain valued talent and experience.

Full details of the pilot are provided within the Redeployment Policy- Pay Protection Scheme Pilot.

The highlights are:

  • To be eligible for pay protection employees must be at risk of redundancy, have a minimum of two years’ service and have accepted a new role at one grade lower than their current position.

  • The pay will consist of the salary at the top of the new grade (excluding contribution points and including London Allowance), plus a monthly allowance to make up the shortfall.

  • At the end of the pay protection period, the allowance will cease.
