Important policy updates to Disclosing Criminal Convictions
12 September 2024
UCL policy on Disclosing Criminal Convictions was revised and updated on 15 August 2024.
The Disclosure of Criminal Convictions Policy outlines when disclosure of a caution and/or criminal convictions is required for prospective members of staff and existing members of staff.
It is important that all staff and line managers are fully aware of the revised policy and their obligations, especially around the disclosure of their personal criminal data.
Several changes and improvements have been made to the policy. These include:
- Renamed as Disclosure of Criminal Convictions Policy (formerly DBS Checks and Criminal Convictions Policy).
- Clear and more targeted instructions on the scope and type of convictions that must be declared according to the role.
- A new confidential route for existing staff to declare relevant cautions and/or convictions to the HR Employee Relations Team.
- Streamlined and simplified content.
Part of the new agreed policy will be the rolling out of a new system of undertaking a renewal of the DBS check every 4 years.
Details of this new process will follow in due course. For any queries, please contact HR Policy Team.
