Practicing Facilitation Skills - 21st March 14:30-16:00
This virtual workshop builds on the tips and techniques highlighted in the workshop Introduction to Facilitation Skills. We will explore a range of different facilitation scenarios that we would often encounter when facilitating inclusive meetings in UCL and identify both good practice and not so good practice in these situations. As an attendee, you will be encouraged to participate in the facilitation scenarios.
This will be a very practical workshop and will be limited to a maximum of 30 attendees.
By the end of this workshop you will:
- have participated in/observed a range of facilitation scenarios related to the UCL working environment
- have identified “good practice” from the facilitation scenarios
- have identified “not so good” practice from the facilitation scenarios
- have shared with your colleagues what you have learned and what you will do differently when facilitating inclusive online meetings.

Working Smarter: Saying No - 23rd March 11:00-12:00
Getting the balance right between supporting colleagues and students and protecting space for important work can be really hard. With so much that needs doing and not enough help, it can feel like the only option is to work longer and harder just to keep things going. There’s no time for anything strategic or for working ahead so it can feel we are always in a crisis. There is a risk of burnout and a danger you don’t get time for really important work.
The only way out is to break the cycle, put clear boundaries in place and say no to some things so that other things get done. Yet saying no is really hard.
This bitesize workshop explores why we struggle and gives you tools and ideas as well as space to practice ways to set boundaries and say no without damaging relationships or reputation. You’ll leave confident, determined, and equipped to push back and make space for yourself and your most important work.
