World Suicide Prevention Day 2021
25 August 2021
Being Well at UCL is supporting WSPD. Sign up for one of the events taking place to raise awareness of suicide prevention.
Friday 10 September is recognised worldwide as the day to raise awareness of suicide. UCL is supporting World Suicide Prevention Day with a series of events, however, this isn’t just about one day, we need to continue the dialogue as one suicide is one too many.
It’s important that we are aware of the supports and resources available to us and our community, these can be found on the Being Well at UCL website. The focus this year is ‘Creating hope through action’ and to support this we have a programme of events starting on Thursday 2 September 2021 through to Tuesday 14 September 2021. Sign up for one of our events below:
Thursday 2 September:
- Suicide First Aid Lite, 9:30-1pm
- The Journey to Suicide, 2-4pm (event postponed)
Monday 6 September:
Wednesday 8 September:
Friday 10 September:
Tuesday 14 September:
Across the world more than 700,000 people each year die due to suicide every year. The Samaritans have published One year on - What do we know about coronavirus and suicide risk? Outlining the evidence on how the pandemic has affected suicide rates in the pandemic. This draws on research from the UCL Covid-19 Social Study.
If you are unable to sign up to a session then please take 30 minutes to complete the Zero Suicide Alliance - Suicide Let's Talk programme. This online training aims to give you the confidence and skills to help someone who may be considering suicide.
