Introducing Unitemps, a new way to recruit temporary staff

In partnership with Unitemps, UCL is launching a new internal service to recruit temporary staff. Unitemps will support colleagues through the full process of hiring staff.

Unitemps is part of the Transforming our Professional Services Programme (TOPS) whose aim is to deliver effective, efficient and integrated professional services. After careful consideration it was felt that the Unitemps franchise would offer UCL a streamlined recruitment process for temporary staff and help to ensure we are fully compliant when processing temporary staff requests.

Developed in 1997 by the University of Warwick, Unitemps provides a recruitment solution to higher education providers. With 13 UK university partners, Unitemps is a growing network with an ethical approach to recruitment that is bespoke to the higher education sector.

Unitemps at UCL will manage the internal recruitment of students and non-students into temporary work at UCL, ensuring a robust, efficient and supportive process is in place. The initial implementation will be phased from the start of the new academic year, beginning with workers completing ‘one-off’ assignments. Eventually Unitemps at UCL will manage a large proportion of staff on temporary or ‘one-off’ contracts.
