Getting Inkpath on your device

You can download Inkpath on your smartphone, or, if you prefer, you can access it using any web browser on your device. It's easy, just download it from your app store, or go to the Inkpath Web App.

Logging in for the first time

To access Inkpath for the first time, you will need to:

  • Access Inkpath using the mobile app (from the app store) or on the web (webapp.inkpath.co.uk)
  • Click the purple button “Use Single-Sign-On”.
  • Select your ‘organisation’ as University College London.
  • Make sure you read the Privacy Policy and Terms of Use before accepting it.
  • To complete the process, click the green button “Log in with Single-Sign-On”.
  • Complete your sign up via the UCL Single Sign On system with your UCL credentials
  • Inkpath will remember you, but may occasionally ask you to log in again in the same way

Building your profile

When you log in for the first time, you will need to fill in some basic information about yourself:

  • Tell us about your programme, department and when you started. Some courses are provided by the departments or DTPs only to their members!
  • You will then be taken to My Activities section, which you will be using a lot, but more on that later!

If you want to check or update your information, click on the three dots in the navigation bar, and follow to Settings option.

My Activities

You can access My Activities screen at any time, by using the pencil shortcut in the navigation toolbar in your app. Get comfortable with finding it: you will be spending a lot of time in this section.

  • You can find activities added by UCL providers, including the OD researcher development programmes. If your DTP subscribes to Inkpath, and you linked it in your profile, you will see their training as well.
  • You can create activity outside of the already existing ones, like conferences or important step in your induction (your lab training for example).
  • You can also export your activities into csv file. You may find it useful especially if you are about to write a report on your activities, update your CV, or just want to look at your training notes in one place.
  • Most importantly, you can use the green button near the bottom of your screen to scan the QR code shown by your tutor. This will verify your attendance. Please note that attendance is only verified on Inkpath if you scan the QR code in this way (mobile app) or use the numeric code (web app) to mark the activity complete.

Once you find an activity, what are your options?

Once you find an activity, depending on whether the course is booked via Inkpath, you can see the following options:

  • Book your activity if the registration is managed by Inkpath
  • Go to an external booking page for activities managed locally (for example, ISD or Library Services training)
  • Join the waiting list if the course is full
  • Add your activity if you wish to "follow" this activity, but do not want to book a place. Think of it as your favourites list!
  • Cancel your place if you have an active booking.

What else can you do on the My Activities screen?

You can find your upcoming, past and completed activities on My Activities screen easily by using filtering option provided in that section. Once you find your activity, you will have more options available to you, like:

  • Add your activity to your calendar (mobile app only).
  • Remove it from your profile if you no longer are interested.
  • Check the details of your activity (time, date, location, website and short description).
  • View the activity website - this can offer more details, or external booking link.
  • Make notes for your own record, which will be kept in your profile and exported together with the details of your activity.
  • Mark your activity as complete (if you haven't scanned the QR code).

My Profile (Skills)

You can access this section of the app by clicking on the silhouette icon, located on the left-side of your navigation bar. This is where you can review and plan your development. The skills you will see here are based on the Researcher Development Framework, and all our courses are also mapped to this framework, to help you track your skills progress. Here you can:

  • Check how much time you've logged in each of the skills areas.
  • Find activities mapped to the skill you wish to develop.

My Goals

This section can be accessed by clicking on the target icon in your navigation bar. This is where you can:

  • See, review and join goals set up by UCL. For example, we may have a pathway for new students, which accompanies the UCL induction.
  • Or, you can set up your own personal goals, populated by activities provided by UCL, your own activities, or a mixture of both. You may for instance wish to develop your presentation skills, and as part of your goal, you could add a couple of presentation courses, and your conference presentation to your target. Each time you complete your activity, your progress toward achieving the goal will be updated.

Registration on UCL DocSkills programme

Inkpath will be used to manage all DocSkills bookings.

Booking a place is easy: if a course requires booking you will see a purple button 'book activity' or 'join waiting list' (if the course is full). You may also see 'go to external booking page' occasionally, if booking is required on another system.  Inkpath may ask some questions about your booking, then will tell you if your place is confirmed. If you are on the waiting list, Inkpath will tell you by email if a space becomes available.  You will also receive an email one day before a booked event to remind you to attend.

You can use the 'add to my calendar' option (mobile app only) to set a reminder in your device calendar.

When you attend an event you must remember to scan the QR code (mobile app) or enter the verification code (web app) to record your attendance.

We will either send you the web link to the online event or we will update the 'click here to join' link to take you directly to the live event at the relevant date and time. For e-learning modules, part of a blended program, the link will take you directly to the relevant learning platform where you can start the course at any time.

What about the staff training?

For RSDP programme, you will need to book your place on My Learning system, and use Inkpath to confirm the attendance during the session.
