Resident Doctors Pay scale

Pay scale and pay premia information for Resident Doctors and Dentists in training.

    StR Pay scale

    Effective 1st April 2025

    London allowance is payable to those working in London, and in spaces immediately bordering London, such as Dorking and Wickford at the following rates:

    • £5,197 per annum (points 1 to 5) with effect from 1 August 2025
    • £4,678 per annum (points 6 onwards) with effect from 1 August 2025

    Clinical Status: non-consultant in training (Resident Doctor).

    Point 9 on the UCL StR pay scale is the top point of the corresponding NHS StR pay scale. Therefore, employees in receipt of NHS Banding Supplements will have these payments capped at point 9.


    Resident Doctors Pay scale, including Dentists in training.

    There is no automatic, annual pay progression on this scale as progression is linked to stage of training.

    • £4,678 per annum from CT3/ST3 (Nodal 4) onwards with effect from 1 August 2025

    Notes:

    • In dental specialities only, Specialty Training begins at ST1, therefore all dentists in Dental Specialty Training (ST1 onwards) going on to the JDPS scale should be placed on Nodal point 4
    • Nodal point 5 was only applicable from 1 October 2020.
