UCL EDI Community of Practice

The UCL EDI Community of Practice (CoP) officially launched on 31 July 2024, and has been set up to foster collaboration, connect and change across UCL, by cultivating expertise, and sharing best practice across the university, to beacon and embed excellent EDI work.

UCL Portico

The aim of this CoP is to:

  • Facilitate knowledge exchange and resource sharing
  • Avoid duplication of effort in EDI work
  • Educate and engage staff in EDI
  • Provide mutual support to each other

The EDI CoP is sponsored by Professor Alison Koslowski, Pro-Provost (Equity & Inclusion) and Addeel Khan, our new Director of Equity, Inclusion and Culture.

Addeel says:

Our community of EDI members across UCL work passionately and invest a lot of effort and emotion to build an inclusive culture across UCL. Alison and I are proud to be Co-Sponsors of this community and ensure they have the support and the visibility to drive meaningful change. The community will bring us together as a united team that can have greater collective impact by allowing improved collaboration and support.

Our UCL EDI CoP Leads are:

  • Avili Feese – EDI Manager, Faculty of Brain Sciences
  • Carol Rivas - Professor of Health and Social Care, IOE Social Research Institute
  • Mary Assad – Change Manager, RIGE Research Culture
  • Linda Lam – EDI Officer, central EDI team

Events and activities

The EDI CoP Leads host an annual in-person event, with termly ‘bridging’ events which seek to form bridges between different groups across the institution through information sharing and collaborative knowledge exchange.

As one of the largest Communities in Practice at UCL, we encourage members to share examples of EDI good practice and we would love to hear about your experiences working on EDI at UCL, with a view to helping others on similar journeys: EDI CoP: Share your EDI initiatives or get involved! – Fill in form
