"Blood pressure measuring. Doctor and patient. Health care." by agilemktg1 is marked with Public Domain Mark 1.0.

As a member of the UCL community, you have access to the BUPA Eduhealth healthcare plans. These schemes are specifically designed for the education sector, offering competitive pricing and comprehensive cover not available to the general public.

Why choose BUPA through Eduhealth?

  • Special rates specifically for UCL and education professionals.
  • Quick access to Bupa’s nationwide network of specialists and hospitals.
  • Face-to-Face Private GP Access: in-person consultations at Bupa health centres.
  • Dental Allowance: Includes one annual dental appointment at a Bupa Dental Care practice plus £300 towards restorative treatment (like fillings, crowns, or bridges) for every person covered on the policy
  • 24/7 access to video consultations with a GP.
  • Mental Health Support: Access to Bupa’s Family Mental Health Line.
  • Portable Benefits: Your Bupa Eduhealth cover can continue at the same discounted rates even if you leave UCL or retire.

Bupa Eduhealth private medical insurance plans are designed to support you and provide clear, reliable cover.

Key features of the two Eduhealth options are:

  • Underwritten by Bupa a top-rated world-renowned premium provider – access to extensive hospital network, and integrated services like its Blua Health app and dental benefits
  • Premiums not linked to postcode – everyone pays a fair rate, regardless of location
  • No claim penalties – using your cover won’t affect your premium
  • No no-claims discount – your cover is available when it’s needed

To help reduce the overall monthly or annual cost of your policy there is  a plan which includes personal contributions to some benefits. This allows you to choose a plan that balances cover and affordability, while still maintaining the benefits and protections you need.

The pricing is community-rated, based on the collective claims experience of a large membership group. This approach ensures stability, fairness, and peace of mind for all members.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the Bupa policy cover?

Private Medical Insurance (PMI) is designed to cover the costs of private healthcare for new medical conditions. This includes everything from initial specialist diagnosis to hospital treatment and aftercare. Routine check-ups and pre-existing chronic conditions are generally excluded.

Can I include my family?

Yes. You can choose a "Member Only" policy or include:

  • Your spouse or co-habiting partner.
  • Your dependants (children up to the age of 23).

What about pre-existing conditions?

Pre-existing and chronic conditions are usually excluded from cover. Bupa will assess your medical history when you apply and outline any specific exclusions or review periods in your policy documents. This process can be explained by a member of the Eduhealth team.

How do I make a claim?

Generally, you will need a GP referral. Once you have this, you can contact Bupa directly to authorise your claim. The Eduhealth team is also available to provide dedicated support throughout the claims process.

What happens if I leave UCL?

Unlike many corporate schemes, your Bupa Eduhealth cover is portable. You can maintain your policy at the same preferential rates and terms regardless of your employment status in the future.
