Learn tips and techniques for being more assertive and using a confident approach to develop productive working relationships. This session will help you understand the importance of assertiveness in the workplace, provide practical strategies to enhance your communication skills, and build your confidence in various professional scenarios. Enrol in Part 2 (Practising Being More Assertive) for an opportunity to put into practice the skills you will learn in this session.

Assertiveness: Practicing Being More Assertive
13 May 2025, 2:30–4pm
90 minute live online session

This bite-sized practical session explores healthy and unhealthy assertiveness in common UCL scenarios. Building on techniques from Essential Skills for Being More Assertive, we'll recap key points and put them into practice. Through group discussions, you'll explore practical examples, practice assertiveness techniques, and reflect on applying them in your role at UCL.

Ambassadors to Mediation
1 May 2025, 10am–1pm
Three hour minute live online session

A course to understand conflict in the workplace and the Mediation Process for Managers, Senior Leaders, HR, Trade Union Reps. Raises awareness around workplace conflict and the costs of conflict. Course content includes a mixture of presentations, discussions and experiential learning.

Listening Skills
30 April 2025, 2–4pm; 7 May 2025, 10am–12pm; 11 June 2025, 10am–12pm
Two hour live online session

In this session on Listening Skills, you'll explore the power of active listening, identify barriers, and learn different levels of listening. Gain practical tips and tools to enhance your listening abilities and build confidence through skills practice. The course includes peer-to-peer learning with small breakout groups, so please join from an environment where you can fully interact. By the end, you'll have a deeper understanding and improved active listening skills.

Wellbeing

Building Resilience
1 May 2025, 2–4pm
Two hour live online session

This session provides an understanding of emotional resilience and tips for building it. Learn how emotional health and resilience are connected, how responses and thinking patterns impact resilience, and ways to enhance wellbeing and prioritise self-care. By the end, you'll understand resilience better and have a plan to improve your own. The course includes peer-to-peer learning with small breakout groups, so please join from an environment where you can fully interact.

Leading Wellbeing Conversations
8 May 2025, 10am–2pm; 4 June 2025, 10am–2pm
Four hour live online session

Aimed at line managers, this half-day session provides an overview of workplace mental health and wellbeing issues. You'll learn to recognise signs when colleagues need support, promote positive wellbeing, and build resilience. The course includes practical tools, guidance for connecting with struggling colleagues, and a resource directory. By the end, you'll have greater understanding, confidence to start conversations, and knowledge of where to access further support. Participants need to provide a postal address for the course manual.
