Director of Workplace Health
Max joined the UCL community in 2009 as a Specialist Practitioner in Occupational Health, having previously had a career in the NHS as a staff nurse. After working in infection control and medical units, he undertook an honours degree in Occupational Health in 2001. He cut his teeth in the occupational health service of a busy NHS London teaching hospital for eight years after finishing his first degree. Once at UCL, Max undertook a Masters in Public Health at King’s and is passionately interested in how good work can support health and wellbeing. Max was also co-chair of the LGBT+ staff network for five years, and is still a member of the LGBT+ employee advisory group (LEAG).
Since taking over as Head of Workplace Health in August 2015, the service has greatly expanded to reflect the growing needs of an enlarged staff population. The team have also developed services for professionally regulated students, and launched Wellbeing@UCL, our wellbeing strategy in January 2017.
When not at UCL, Max likes to travel as much as possible and has a particular passion for trying foods from around the world. He is a keen cyclist and enjoys the many theatres and galleries that working in central London gives him ready access to.
