  • Best Practice in People Management

    This half-day module will take a very practical approach to managing and developing people by applying UCL policies and procedures. We will discuss how you as a manager can avoid the common pitfalls associated with dealing with people management and development issues and staying within the law.
    Eligibility: This workshop is for staff grade 6-8 with leadership or management responsibility, or who anticipate taking on management responsibility within the coming year.

  • Biosafety - Principles and Practice of

    The aim of this course is to provide basic information about routes of infection that might be encountered in the laboratory and the measures needed to control the risk of infection enabling users to work safely in microbiological containment laboratories.
    Eligibility: All microbiological containment laboratory users who are new to work with infectious micro and potentially infectious material.

    "The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place." (George Bernard Shaw) This workshop will explore some of the key behaviours and skills required by leaders and managers to engage in 'breakthrough conversations' with direct reports, colleagues or line managers on a variety of uncomfortable and sensitive issues at work i.e. performance concerns, inappropriate comments etc. The workshop will focus on both the 'what' and the 'how', providing attendees with the tools, techniques and confidence to speak with clarity, courage and respect in order to create effective and quality interactions, enhanced teamwork and ultimately high performance.
    Eligibility: All Staff with Leadership/Management Responsibilities
