Catherine Hall receives Bochum Historians' Award 2017

21 September 2017

Professor Catherine Hall

Professor Emeritus Catherine Hall has been awarded the sixth Bochum Historians' Award. The €25,000 prize is awarded every three years by the History of the Ruhr Foundation to honour a historian's lifetime work. Catherine is the first woman to receive the prize; previous recipients include Eric Hobsbawm and Jürgen Kocka.

The organisers commented, 'In Catherine Hall, we honour a researcher who is also a significant public intellectual. Her works, most recently engaging with the significance of slavery to the wealth and power of Great Britain, inspire both scientific and political debates.' The award will be presented at a ceremony on 15 November.
