Departmental Scholarships

There are a number of prizes and scholarships both large and small available to students of all levels and backgrounds. For more information on undergraduate, postgraduate and reseach prizes and scholarships please see below. 

Undergraduate

Professor Chimen Abramsky Scholarship- £31,250

This scholarship will provide financial support for an outstanding UK undergraduate student in the Department of Hebrew and Jewish Studies. One £31,250 scholarship will be awarded in 2019, subject to successful applications.

The deadline for applications is 20 May 2019 at 4pm.

Ben Yossef Prize- £1000

Awarded to a undergraduate or postgraduate student on the reccomendation of the Department on the basis of academic merit and/or financial need.

Samuel Bard Memorial Prize- up to £1000

Awarded to a undergraduate or postgraduate student on the reccomendation of the Department.

Jews Commemoration Travelling Scholarship- up to £650

Awarded to a student on the reccomendation of the Department.

Harris Prize- £200

Awarded to a student on the reccomendation of the Department based on academic effort and/or financial need.

Raphael Loewe Prize- £75

Awarded to a student on the first year on the reccomendation of the Department.

Hashimoto Rose Prize- £75

Awarded to a student on the reccomendation of the Department.


Postgraduate

Ben Yossef Prize- £1000

Awarded to a undergraduate or postgraduate student on the reccomendation of the Department on the basis of academic merit and/or financial need.

Samuel Bard Memorial Prize- up to £1000

Awarded to a undergraduate or postgraduate student on the reccomendation of the Department.

Hollier Scholarship in Hebrew- £300

Hester Rothschild Scholarship in Hebrew- £500

The deadline for application for the Hollier and Hester Rothschild Scholarships is 15 May 2019.

Research

Graduate Research Scholarship 

Graduate Research Scholarships are available annually to prospective and current UCL research students from any country. The scholarships consist of fees equivalent to the standard postgraduate UK/EU rate plus a maintenance stipend for full-time study (benefits are calculated 'pro rata' for part-time students). The scholarship also includes additional research costs of up to £1,200 per year for the stated duration of the programme.

The deadline for application for the Graduate Research Scholarship is 4 January 2019. 

Overseas Research Scholarship

Awards consist of fee funding to cover the difference between Overseas and UK/EU tuition fees.

Graduate Research Scholarships for Cross-disciplinary Training

Up to four scholarships annually are available to full-time UCL MPhil/PhD and EngD students from any country wishing to spend an additional year of their MPhil/PhD or EngD in another UCL department acquiring research skills and knowledge from a different discipline, which can be applied in their normal area of research. 

The deadline for application for the Cross-disciplinary Scholarship is 4 January 2019. 

Wolfson Scholarship

The intention is that Wolfson Scholarships will be awarded to outstanding students who demonstrate the potential to make an impact on their chosen field. Wolfson Scholarships will be awarded solely on academic merit. Ideally, the successful students would aspire to an academic career. The Foundation is offering three postgraduate research awards in the humanities - these will be for three areas in history, literature and languages. 

For the 2019/20 academic year, the Joint Faculty has agreed to offer an additional 3 scholarships so six awards will be offered in total.

Candidates should inform the Department that they would like to be considered no later than 4 January 2019.
