Over 1,000 pupils at non-Jewish schools take lessons in Jewish history

The Sir Martin Gilbert Learning Centre (Prof Shirli Gilbert, Director) in Hampstead, London, has taken the initiative to teach Jewish history in non-Jewish schools. Since January, they’ve led sessions for over 1,000 children across the UK. These sessions cover topics like the experience of Jewish refugees in Britain during the Nazi period and the story of the Kitchener Camp in Kent, which housed refugees in 1939. The centre provides online resource packs for teachers and students to access independently. Their goal is to overcome obstacles related to time, knowledge, and confidence in teaching Jewish history. Upcoming topics include Jewish soldiers in World War One and Jewish suffragettes and suffragists.
