Extension of the Unit’s contract through to the end of 2028

28 April 2025

We are delighted by the announcement that NIHR will extend the Unit’s contract through to the end of 2028. This is a powerful vote of confidence in the importance of reproductive health research and its ability to drive meaningful change.

The Government has published the renewed Women’s Health Strategy setting out a clear pathway to ensuring that women’s voices, experiences, and needs are no longer overlooked, but integrated  into health care.

The strategy’s focus on listening to women, improving outcomes, and embedding evidence into decision making marks an important step forward in addressing long standing inequalities in women’s health.  The NIHR Policy Research Unit in Reproductive Health shares this vision.

We are delighted by the announcement that NIHR will extend the Unit’s contract through to the end of 2028. This is a powerful vote of confidence in the importance of reproductive health research and its ability to drive meaningful change.

It is encouraging to see recognition of the vital role of the Unit within the renewed strategy. Our work spanning contraceptive attitudes and decision making, abortion care, and the development of robust reproductive health data directly supports the strategy’s ambition to strengthen the evidence base and ensure policies are informed by real-world experiences and needs of women.

We remain committed to research that helps to create a healthcare system, where every woman feels heard, respected, and supported to make informed decisions about their reproductive health.
