The university now ranks ninth, putting it in the top 1% of the nearly 1,500 institutions assessed.

QS is the world’s most-consulted international ranking, and uses a number of indicators to compile the rankings, including academic reputation, employer reputation, citations per faculty, faculty-to-student ratio, international faculty ratio and international student ratio

For the second year running, UCL was named second in the world for the strength of its international research network, which is central to our mission as London’s Global University. By building and supporting partnerships across the world, UCL is able to draw on the wealth of knowledge and expertise and develop new insight into global challenges.

The UK is home to four of the world’s top ten universities: Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial and UCL. UCL has held a top 10 position since 2013, among global peers including MIT, Stanford and Harvard.

Prof Geraint Rees, UCL Vice-Provost (Research, Innovation and Global Engagement), said: “It’s fantastic that UCL continues to be recognised as one of the world’s top 10 universities. I’d like to extend my congratulations to UCL’s entire community, whose hard work and commitment together makes us what we are. Through our strong international partnerships and the diversity of our staff and student body, we’re proud to be London’s Global University, and a world-leading home for research, innovation and education.”

In March, UCL was named by QS as one of the world’s top universities for the study of 43 subjects, with 10 ranked in the global top 10. The UCL Institute of Education maintained its position as first in the world for Education for the 10th year in a row, while The Bartlett was first in the world for Architecture & the Built Environment, and Archaeology third in the world.
