Introduction to Intellectual Property

This half day online workshop will go through the basics of Intellectual Property (IP) knowledge from a researcher perspective and the support available at UCL. Participants will also learn why IP is so important, especially as they create value in their research.

The workshop will be very practical, with a number of reflective and interactive activities. It will help you to:

  • find out more about the different types of IP that researchers may be involved with;
  • evaluate how you use any IP thart you create; and
  • better consider how you collaborate with others with IP in mind.

By the end of the workshop, you'll be better able to:

  • realise opportunities in translational research with knowledge of your own IP;
  • share ideas and work with other partners, both internal to UCL or external; and
  • follow a more open research approach.

Next Event- TBA. Find out about all upcoming ACCELERATE events and news.

Data Management for Translational Research

Good research data management is not only a requirement for funding bodies but is also critical when collaborating with other partners, whether they are academic, from government or industry. In this interactive workshop, you will learn what good research data management is and how to apply it across the research lifecycle as well as considerations for translational research.

The workshop will help you to:

  • Identify what you need when creating, storing and sharing your research data;
  • and utilise a good research data managment approach.

By the end of the online workshop, you'll be better able to:

  • create a data management plan;
  • produce and manage data when working with other partners; both internal to UCL or external; and
  • consider intellectual property implications to research data management.

Involving patients and the public in research

Key to ensuring that therapeutics actually make it to the clinic and are implemented, is that they are adopted by patients, carers, and the public. If the therapeutic does not provide tangible benefit to them, why would they go for it? Engaging with these stakeholder groups EARLY during the idea generation and research phase, and throughout the translational research process, can ensure that you keep sight of what is important. For resources on patient and public involvement and engagement (PPIE) - developed by ACCELERATE in collaboration with UCL Public Engagement, patient stakeholders, and UCL researchers, check out the website

To complement the ACCELERATE programme, we have pulled together a list of resources offered by experts at UCL and beyond that focuses on technical training. Check out the links below.
