PhD Studentship - Using Large-scale Routine Data To Monitor And Improve Ethnic Inequalities In Cancer And Cardiovascular Disease (Vacancy ref: 1817261)
|
|
Do individuals from black and minority ethnic (BME) groups with overlapping cancer and CVD are less likely to have access to healthcare and worse outcomes? The project will focus on heart attacks and coronary bypass surgery and lung, colorectal and breast cancers in terms of cardiovascular disease and cancer respectively. First, the project will investigate quality of ethnicity reporting in two large databases (VICORI, which combines national cardiovascular and cancer registries, and Global Burden of Disease, GBD, data), comparing with routine hospital data. Second, VICORI and GBD data will be used to identify burden of these diseases by ethnic groups, and to study access to health services. By highlighting reporting of ethnicity in healthcare data, and burden of cancer and cardiovascular disease in BME groups, health inequalities and future targets for public health improvement will be identified.
