Ms Fatima Wurie is an Honorary Research Associate and Doctoral Researcher in Public Health Informatics at the Institute of Health Informatics, UCL.

PhD research

Ms Wurie’s doctoral research employs a mixed methods approach to explore the use of health interventions to support medication adherence for tuberculosis in homeless and socially marginalised groups.

Ms Wurie is the Principal Investigator for a qualitative study entitled: “Video observed therapy (VOT) to support treatment adherence for tuberculosis patients in Chișinău, Republic of Moldova” funded by the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene. This study is embedded in an existing randomised controlled trial evaluating VOT in Moldova funded by UNDP and The Global Fund.

Biography

After completing a BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Sciences at the University or Durham (2002-2006), Ms Wurie completed public health and health policy training as part of a Diploma in Health Planning and Management at Birkbeck (2008). In 2013-14 Ms Wurie completed an MSc in Public Health at London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and holds an APMP associate-level qualification in project management.

Ms Wurie has worked as a Biomedical Scientist in Histopathology for Great Ormond Street Hospital and as Project Coordinator for the National Sentinel Stroke Audit at The Royal College of Physicians – London. Ms Wurie joined UCL in 2009 has had supported and led the coordination and implementation of a range of infection-related projects and studies evaluating services and interventions for homeless groups in England.
