UCL’s Institute of Health Informatics (IHI) invites applications for two new university lecturers to help develop and deliver ambitious research and teaching programmes. UCL is the top-ranked UK University for highly cited publications in medical informatics. IHI research groups co-ordinate Health Data Research UK in London, lead the development of research platforms for large scale electronic health records (CALIBER), explore EHR linked to genomic resources (including 100, 000 genomes project, UK Biobank, disease specific GWAS efforts), and are pioneering a new approach to clinical research informatics in partnership with UCLH.
We bring together over 300 academic and clinical researchers, through our associations with partner NHS Trusts (UCL Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Great Ormond Street Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and the Royal Free Hospital NHS Foundation Trust). These connections mean that we offer unique opportunities for researchers to have a significant impact on the delivery of clinical services. IHI currently offers the largest portfolio of postgraduate programmes in health informatics and data science in the UK (160 current postgraduate taught students) and seeks to strengthen and diversify its existing MSc in Health Data Analytics, Health Informatics and in Health Data Science) and short course programmes.
Based on this convergence of research, care and teaching, we will provide the lecturers with a growing, inter-disciplinary team environment at IHI, access to unrivalled data resources and to a wide range of UK and international networks of expertise, and mentoring to advance your career. We want you to carry out outstanding research which leverages the scale and depth of NHS and other digital health data, increasingly linked to genomic information. Your research will be gain strength from the science strategy of Institute of Health Informatics (IHI) and Health Data Research UK (HDR UK), and you will be encouraged to attract research funding from Research Council and charity sources to build scientific teams. We want you to develop and deliver teaching opportunities for undergraduate and postgraduate students and to supervise PhD students. We anticipate that the teaching component of the post would average 1-2 days per week.
We seek to appoint two Lecturers with complementary skills and interests:
· Lecturer in Health Data Science
This lecturer will contribute to our existing programme in Health Data Science and develop new content in the areas of machine learning and/or the analysis of EHR data linked with genomic or other massive forms of data.
· Lecturer in Health Informatics / Health Data Analytics
This lecturer will contribute to our existing programmes in Health Informatics and Health Data Analytics and develop new content on the application of data analytics to improve the organisation and delivery of healthcare.
