This module will equip students with the practical hands-on skills required in order to manage big biomedical data for research by introducing them to the main tools, methods and ideas in a health data scientist’s toolbox. By the end of this module, students will be familiar with contemporary information governance issues and their solutions, how to manipulate data in a relational database, how to explore and visualize data and how to model health data using electronic health record standards. Additionally, students will gain practical experience on common scientific programming approaches and best-practices on version control, data cleaning, curation and metadata.
