The UCL Institute of Education gardens provide a haven for wildlife (and UCL staff and students), on the roof of the UCL Institute of Education. And for the past month, members of the UCL community have been given the opportunity to submit their designs for one of four biodiversity-supporting raised beds in the gardens.

Environmental awareness & good practice
We have a variety of different resources for staff and students to help spread environmental awareness and the use of good practice. This includes a new online Green Awareness course, posters, a database of environmental legislation and an environmental good practice guide for laboratories.

Materials and recycling
Get information about materials and recycling at UCL, find out how to dispose of waste effectively and register for WARPit - an online portal which allows staff at UCL to redistribute (give, loan or share) resources within UCL and beyond.

Energy and carbon
UCL has a large carbon footprint and it'll take the efforts of everyone; students, academics and professional services staff to help reduce it. We have a dedicated Carbon Management Plan and are currently working towards an updated version.

Procurement and Purchasing
The products and services we buy have impacts in their manufacture, use and disposal. Whether it's buying products that use recycled materials, that use less energy in their use, that conform to standards like Fairtrade,or are designed to reuse at end of life; buying better products gives us the opportunity to reduce waste and save energy and resources.

UCL Estates has a large portfolio of construction and refurbishment projects. These not only have a sustainability impact during the works themselves, but also during the lifetime of the completed projects. There are a number of tools available to use to improve this impact.
