How many creme eggs did UCL save in the Big Easter Switch-Off?
20 April 2018
Congratulations to everyone who joined in with the Big Easter Switch Off. The energy savings you made are proof that small acts can make a big difference.
Over the Easter break, you helped save a whopping 180,000 kWh of energy (electricity and heat) which is 53 tonnes of CO2. That’s enough energy to make up to 4.8 million cups of tea and the weight of 1.5 million crème eggs!
Over 250 staff and students pledged to take part in the campaign, from 80 departments and teams across UCL.
If we switched off like this every weekend, UCL could save up to 200 tonnes of carbon and over £75k in energy bills every year.
Congratulations to both the Institute of Epidemiology and Health Care and the Division of Psychiatry for winning the competition! They both had the highest pledges, with Mathematics and Estates closely following.
Congratulations to the Geography Department for saving the most energy over the break, using just 44% of their normal use!
Prizes will be sent over to you all shortly.
