UCL Sustainability Officer Evan Landy is nominated for Rising Star Award

14 March 2017

Colleague Evan Landy made the final shortlist through his work on UCL’s biodiversity action plan, such as the recent installation of swift nesting boxes, and leading UCL’s pioneering work on sustainable fit-outs.

Rising Star Nomination

UCL helped to develop a scheme called Ska HE – a sustainable fit-out tool specifically for higher education buildings – which is helping to drive sector wide change through promoting sustainable refurbishments of university facilities. Evan has spoken at numerous events and assisted other universities in initiating their pilot Ska HE projects, a scheme that is improving UCL’s already excellent reputation for its work on sustainability in the built environment. Although he missed out on the big prize, making the final six on the shortlist from a total of 90 nominees is a significant achievement.

Evan Landy, Sustainability Officer: “It was a privilege to be amongst a shortlist of people doing such commendable work in sustainability. Working at UCL is brilliant because you are given the platform to work on projects that can have wider reaching influence than the sum of their parts. Developing Ska HE has got other universities using the scheme and we have also had manufacturers in the industry contact us on how they can improve their environmental credentials to be in line with Ska requirements.”

UK Green Building Council and architect firm, PRP launched the Rising Star Award in 2013, in memory of Mel Starrs, a prominent built environment practitioner and Associate Director at PRP, who sadly passed away in 2012. The award is an opportunity to nominate a colleague or peer who has made a real difference to the sustainability agenda and shine a light on their achievements.
