Celebrate Fairtrade Fortnight 2015

Fairtrade Fortnight is 23rd February - 8th March, and all staff and students are encouraged to get involved.

Fairtrade is all about farmers getting a fairer price for their produce. It's a scheme that drives environmental improvements and generates funds to help improve the lives of communities around the world. And here at UCL, we're keen to support this as much as possible. That's why 100% of coffee and bananas from UCL's cafes and restaurants are Fairtrade.

Fairtrade Fornight is a celebration of Fairtrade and the positive impact it makes. It's a chance to put on events and raise the profile of the scheme (plus an excuse to eat delicious Fairtrade products).

There a loads of ways you can get involved, from buying Fairtrade products to running Fairtrade coffee mornings and film showings. Below are some examples, but if you'd like help with an idea or event, just contact the Sustainability Team.

Buy Fairtrade products

There's a huge selection of Fairtrade products on sale in UCL's cafes and restaurants. Whether it's tea and coffee, hot chocolate, sugar, bananas or cereal bars; you're sure to find Fairtrade products on offer. And for the duration of Fairtrade Fortnight, UCL's caterer Sodexo will be offering 20% off all confectionery when bought with a hot drink too.

Show Fairtrade's new short film

Fairtrade Fortnight sees the premiere of a new short film: Fairtrade Matters. This is a thought-provoking 13-minute film which offers a glimpse into the lives of two of the farmers at the heart of Fairtrade. You can watch the trailer below, and it'll be available for download on the Fairtrade website soon. Why not having a showing in your department?

Organise a tasting session or coffee morning

Why not run a Fairtrade tea and coffee morning for your team? You could use it as an opportunity to show the new Fairtrade film, or raise funds for the Fairtrade Foundation. You could also run a competition with Fairtrade chocolate as prizes.

Promote Fairtrade

Get the word out. There are a range of A3 and A4 Fairtrade posters you can download and print for your department. You can also order free printed ones here. And don't forget to post about your involvement on your department's website and social media too.
