Join UCL in celebrating Fairtrade Fortnight from Monday 27th February to Sunday 12th March. Throughout the fortnight the University will be hosting a series of events to raise awareness about the Fairtrade Foundation.

The food on our tables, the tea and coffee in our mugs, all from farmers who toil, sweat and slog. However hard they work to provide the things we depend on, millions of farmers in developing countries aren’t paid what they deserve.

No one deserves to be short-changed for a hard day’s work. Paying farmers unfairly while we benefit is exploitative. When we reach for our everyday food, and don’t question cheaper prices and bigger discounts, we may be unconsciously feeding exploitation. We become part of the problem. But we can make a conscious choice to be part of the solution.

Try some of our fairtrade produce!

All tea, coffee, hot chocolate and a variety of other drinks and snacks served by UCL’s main caterers are Fairtrade. Join us throughout the fortnight to try out some of our Fairtrade products for free and find out about how Fairtrade can help farmers across the world at the following locations:

  • Monday 27th Feb- Old Refectory Café
  • Tuesday 28th Feb- Engineering Café
  • Wednesday 1st March- 22 Gordon Street Café
  • Thursday 2nd March- Science Library Café
  • Friday 3rd March – School of Pharmacy Refectory

Meet Leonard Kachebonaho, a Fairtrade coffee producer

Leonard Kachebonaho is the director of the Kaderes cooperative in Tanzania. Join him in the Old Refectory Café on Monday 27th Feb from 3pm - 4pm to learn about his coffee farm and how Fairtrade affects him.
