Junk in the Trunk is an exciting volunteer reuse and recycling project, that's all about reducing waste in halls of residence.
It involves collecting unwanted items of kitchenware, clothing, electrical goods and non-perishable food items at the end of term and donating them to charity.
The charitable side of the scheme is significant, with donations making a real difference to the community, the environment as well as people in need locally.
In 2013 Junk in the Trunk prevented almost 4 tonnes of goods from going to landfill, it helped numerous charities, started several conversations about the environment and quite a few people got a lovely toaster
How can I get involved?
There are three ways you can get involved with Junk in the Trunk:
- Volunteer: at the end of term (June), help collect and sort goods from the residences. You'll help set up collection areas, coordinate pick-ups and promote the events. It's a fun way to make a really positive contribution to some great causes.
- Run a pop up shop: We collect a lot of goods from the residences. Why not hone your entrepreneurial skills, raise money for charity and help provide other students with affordable kitchen and homeware by running some pop-up shops? We can provide support and help, just get in touch to discuss this further.
- Suggest a project: got other ideas about how you could contribute to Junk in the Trunk, or use unwanted items from the residences? Just get in touch!
