I'm a student: how can I take part?
Taking part in Green Impact is a great opportunity for students. Our very own Sustainability Communications Officer started out as a Green Impact Project Assistant and Auditor - so it is a great avenue if you want to go into a sustainablity-related career, or any other for that matter as it provides many transferable skills.
There are two opportunities for students to get involved in Green Impact, see below.
Green Impact Project Assistants (GIPAs) – deadline to apply October 18th 2017.
Green Impact Project Assistants provide essential
support to teams completing the criteria in the workbook or organising a
project. GIPA’s are recruited at the beginning of the academic year,
undergo training and are assigned to a team. Volunteering hours vary
depending on the needs of the teams but are very flexible around
This opportunity allows students to have their own positive influence on helping the University to become more sustainable. It is also a great way for students to gain valuable experience and transferable skills applicable to any CV. Students do not have to be studying an environmental or sustainability related degree – an interest in making a positive change is all that’s needed!

Green Impact Auditors – next recruiting May 2018
Once the workbooks for Green Impact are submitted, each team will be audited by students. This is an excellent opportunity for students to build skills and knowledge associated with environmental auditing through IEMA accredited training, and will be fully recognized by the Environmental Association of Universities and Colleges (EAUC) and NUS through a certificate.
Each student volunteer spends a couple of hours receiving IEMA accredited training on the workbook criteria and how to undertake an audit. Students then complete a couple of audits which should take between one and two hours to complete depending on the size of the department.
