UCL Grand Challenge of Human Wellbeing Working Group

Professor Nick Tyler CBE is Chadwick Professor of Civil Engineering, and investigates the ways in which people interact with their immediate environments. He set up the Accessibility Research Group within the Centre for Transport Studies, with a team of researchers investigating many aspects of accessibility and public transport. The Group's achievements include the PAMELA pedestrian environment laboratory, which is being used to develop models for accessible pedestrian infrastructure. Professor Tyler is also the Director of the UCL CRUCIBLE Centre, which is a multi-Research Council funded Centre for interdisciplinary research on lifelong health and wellbeing and involves researchers from all eight faculties in UCL.

Dr Jakob Stougaard-Nielsen is a Senior Lecturer in Scandinavian Literature. His research interests include world literature, book history, discourse technologies, (cultural) memory and digital culture, Hans Christian Andersen, Henry James, Scandinavian crime fiction and the welfare state. He is particularly interested in the inter-dependence of literature and materiality, literature and society - how publication formats, print cultures and visual cultures make literature 'matter', and how literature may contribute to our understanding of social change and our environment.
