AI & Society

Advances in artificial intelligence have the potential to transform society. The Grand Challenge of Transformative Technology is supporting cross-disciplinary work that studies the impacts of widespread adoption of machine learning and intelligent systems.

Social Issues around Artificial Intelligence

The UCL Grand Challenge of Transformative Technology held a UCL town meeting in June 2018. The event featured six provocations from six speakers, addressing the implications of AI for governance, privacy, fairness, education and justice. The presentations were chaired by Professor Jon Agar (Co-Chair GCTT Working Group).

The presentations were followed by a discussion session, chaired by UCL alumna Professor Noreena Hertz.

The results of the town meeting are informing a strategic initiative on AI for academic year 2018-19.
