Dr Ramya Srinivasan appointed as Associate Professor for Neurodevelopmental Disorders

23 June 2025

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Dr Ramya Srinivasan as Associate Professor of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry within the Division of Psychiatry at UCL.

Ramya

Dr Srinivasan will lead research focused on neurodevelopment and mood disorders in children and young people. In her role as Consultant, she will also oversee the neurodevelopmental care pathway for UCL students, working within the North London NHS Foundation Trust’s Neurodevelopmental Team.

Ramya is currently co-leading a flagship partnership between UCL Grand Challenges and the North London NHS Foundation Trust, alongside Professor Daisy Fancourt. This collaboration has launched a pioneering randomised controlled trial investigating the impact of social prescribing for young people who are current or former patients of Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS). The study aims to pave the way for further experimental intervention initiatives in partnership with the Trust, with the ultimate goal of enhancing care quality and alleviating pressure on mental health services.

Mental Health & Wellbeing Pro-Vice Provosts Professor Argyris Stringaris and Essi Viding stated:

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Dr Srinivasan to this important role. An outstanding clinician-scientist, Dr Srinivasan brings a strong track record in both research and clinical practice. Her expertise and dedication will significantly strengthen one of the most pressing areas in public health. Her focus on interventions, developing strategies to enhance prevention and treatment, is highly relevant to UCL's Grand Challenges, as is her clinical leadership of the neurodevelopmental pathway for UCL students. We are grateful to the Dean of the Faculty of Brain Sciences at UCL and our NHS Partners, particularly the Chief Medical Officer and the Director of the R&D Office, for their commitment to creating this post.”

Dr Srinivasan is a clinician-scientist and Consultant in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. She was previously a Wellcome Training Fellow, and, prior to that, held an NIHR Academic Clinical Fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry as part of the Higher Training Programme at the Great Ormond Street and Royal London Hospitals.

Her expertise is broad, ranging from longitudinal epidemiological to cognitive neuroscience studies into key irritability, mood regulation and neurodevelopment in young people. She has trained in psychiatric research methodology at UCL, where she also did her PhD studies and trained in Neuroscience at Cambridge and Medicine at Oxford
