Empowering Neonatal Care in Low-Resource Settings through Predictive Data Dashboards
This project aims to enhance neonatal care in low-resource settings by upgrading existing Neotree dashboards with real-time predictive visualisations.

Neotree is a clinical decision-support platform deployed in hospitals in Malawi and Zimbabwe. Currently, its dashboards display retrospective data, limiting proactive clinical decision-making.
The project will integrate existing predictive analytics tools into intuitive, data-based dashboards, allowing clinicians to anticipate patient outcomes, resource demands, and admission trends. A research assistant will oversee integration, field deployment, and user support.
Proposed activities include dashboard prototyping, internal testing, deployment in hospitals, training clinical staff, and conducting structured evaluations through surveys and observations. The dashboards will be refined based on clinician feedback, and a final usability and impact report will be produced, including guidelines for broader implementation.
The project is interdisciplinary, involving UCL’s Institute of Child Health and the Department of Computer Science. It directly supports UCL’s Data Empowered Societies vision and UN Sustainable Development Goals by demonstrating how data-driven tools can improve healthcare equity.
Success will be assessed by measuring dashboard usability, integration into clinical workflows, clinician satisfaction, and early impact on decision-making.
