Who can attend?

If you are eligible to attend, you will receive an invitation by email. This email has been sent to every email address that is stored on your Portico.

Please contact Student Records to discuss your eligibility to graduate. They can be contacted on studentrecords@ucl.ac.uk

Undergraduate

Undergraduate students are invited to attend the UCL Graduation Ceremonies pre-award. Those students who have an expected end date of July will be invited, in February, to apply to attend their graduation ceremonies subject to them having a conferred award on their student record by 01 July. Any undergraduate student who does not have a conferred award by 01 July will automatically have their attendance and tickets cancelled, their payment refunded and will be given the opportunity to attend a graduation ceremony in the following year.

Any undergraduate given the option to choose an Ordinary Degree or resit might also have their attendance for graduation cancelled. Please refer to your department for details about Ordinary Degrees.

Taught Graduate Students

Taught Graduate students are invited to attend the UCL Graduation Ceremonies post-award. To be eligible to attend graduation Taught Graduate students must have a conferred award on their student record by 01 April. Eligible students will be contacted in February with details of their provisional ceremony date and time. Those who have an award conferred on their student record after 01 April  will be invited to attend the graduation ceremonies in the following year.

Research Graduate Students

Research Graduate students will be selected for the UCL Graduation Ceremonies based on their award date and when the award is issued. To be eligible to attend the Graduation Ceremonies their degree must be awarded on, or before, the 26th April. Eligible students will be contacted in February with details of their provisional ceremony date and time. Research Graduates with an award conferred on their student record after 26th April  will be invited to attend the Graduation Ceremonies in the following year.

PGCE Students

PGCE students must have had an award on their record by 01 April in order to attend a UCL Graduation Ceremony. Eligible students will be contacted February with details of their provisional ceremony date and time. PGCE students with an award conferred on their record after 01 April will be invited to attend the Graduation Ceremonies in the following year.

Course Changes

Students registered on a four year undergraduate programme (expecting to complete their studies in June) who wish to change to a three year programme to complete in June of this year and attend the UCL Graduation Ceremonies, must have the change active on Portico by 01 April.

Students on a three year undergraduate programme (due to complete their studies in June of this year) who decide to change to a four year programme (completing their studies in the following year) after applying to attend their Graduation Ceremony will need to cancel their attendance.

If following the Exam Board meetings students are advised they will be awarded a BSc/BEng and cannot continue to the fourth year, or elect to be awarded a Bachelors degree, they will be unable to attend this years  Graduations Ceremonies and will have to wait and apply to attend the Graduation Ceremonies of the following year.

Interruption

Students on interruption of studies will not be invited to attend a UCL Graduation Ceremony until they return to their studies and their student record is updated to an Enrolled status.  If you have any queries regarding your attendance, please contact the Student Records team.
