Terms of Reference

  1. To review, as necessary, Statute 18 processes and procedures, and their implementation, with special attention to the preservation of the academic values that Statute 18 is designed to protect as well as the rights of staff and students. 
  2. To consider important matters of fairness, such as the extension of coverage of Statute 18 protections to staff carrying out academic work who are not presently protected by it. 
  3. To bring any necessary recommendations to the Academic Board for adoption so that the Board may determine whether to put these before Council. These may include additions to the Regulations for Management of the university that are necessary to clarify, and thereby improve, Statute 18 processes. 
  4. To produce an initial report within 6 months, and report to AB at least once a year on its work. 
  5. To scrutinise any proposed changes to Statute 18, or Regulations which specify its processes, and report to the Academic Board or put recommendations before the Board so it may advise Council. 
  6. To monitor any policies or policy implementation that engage Statute 18 rights and report to the Academic Board on any significant developments.
