Call for applications: UCL-PSL Doctoral research internship

We are inviting applications from UCL doctoral students in all fields who wish to conduct a short-term research internship at Université Paris Science et Lettres (PSL).

The 2026 application opens on Monday 23 Feb 2026 and closes on Friday 17th of April.

As a doctoral research intern, you will have the opportunity to gain international research experience as an integrated member of a research team at PSL. Any of PSL’s schools is eligible as a host institution, as long as the UCL PhD student has identified a specific lab or research group that is willing to host them for the duration. 
During their stay at PSL, the UCL PhD student is free to pursue any research activities related to their thesis.
Successful applicants will receive financial assistance from UCL towards accommodation in Paris and travel between London and Paris.

Please note: applicants should check the immigration regulations between the United Kingdom and France before travelling.

Conditions of application 

•    Proposed internships must take place between 1 May 2026 to 15 December 2026.  Internships must end by 15 December 2026 at the latest.
•    The duration of the proposed internship should be between 4 and 8 weeks. 
•    Applicants must have the written confirmation of a PSL research lab or host supervisor to ensure that they can be integrated within its structure for the whole duration of their stay.
•    Applicants must also have a written proof of support from their PhD supervisor at UCL 
•    Once internship dates have been confirmed, they should not be altered.

Applications will be reviewed by a panel of representatives from UCL, PSL, and the French Embassy in the UK. 

Applicants can expect to receive a decision on their application by Thursday 30 April at the latest.

Selection criteria will include


•    Quality of the project submitted;
•    Consistency between the desired internship and the applicant's doctoral curriculum;
•    Relevance of the project considering the cooperation between PSL & UCL.
