Explore UCL Global Engagement's funding schemes and opportunities, designed to help UCL staff develop their international collaborations.
Applicants may apply to multiple funding schemes, but please note only one application can be funded per lead applicant each academic year.
Global Engagement Funds (GEF)
Between £500-£5,000 is available per project to help support UCL staff in any field collaborate with colleagues in any other country around the world. Funding can support a wide variety of activities and research initiatives. The 2024/25 funding call is opening on 24 May 2024.
Partner Funds
A number of funding streams are available to support joint projects between UCL staff and those at UCL's key global partner institutions. In most cases, global partners have matched the funds committed by UCL for these funding streams, meaning larger overall pots of funding are available. Several funding streams will open on 24 May 2024, with others becoming available in the autumn

Bringing UCL to Japan through Egyptology
With support from the Global Engagement Funds (GEF), Dr Anna Garnett (UCL Petrie Museum) is revitalising historical connections between UCL and Japan in Egyptian archaeology.
Understanding how party foot soldiers impact voters in Zimbabwe
Dr Adam Harris (UCL Political Science) used UCL-Wits University Strategic Partner Funds to run focus groups with individuals affected by party foot soldiers in urban Zimbabwe.
Support for external global research funding
UCL provides support to help identify and develop strong research proposals for global research funding in low- and middle-income countries. This includes support and advice for Official Development Assistance (ODA) funded research activity. Please note that some external funding calls are subject to an institutional cap. If so, applications must be referred to the relevant Research Facilitation or Coordination Office for your School that leads UCL’s internal selection processes. You should also seek approval from your department and Research Services in line with the usual approval process.
