Explore UCL Global Engagement's funding schemes, designed to help UCL academics develop their international collaborations

Group of individuals involved in a Global Engagement Fund project
UCL academics across all faculties are working with colleagues around the world to tackle today's biggest challenges. Below are our funding calls designed to support these efforts: the Global Engagment Funds (GEF), the Cities Partnerships Programme Funds and various Partner Funds

Applicants may apply to multiple funding schemes, but please note only one application can be funded per lead applicant each academic year.

Global Engagement Funds (GEF)

Between £500-£5,000 is available per project to help support UCL academics in any field collaborate with colleagues in any other country around the world. 2022/23 round now closed.

Cities Partnerships Programme Funds

Funds of up to £5,000 per project (or more, by exception) to support academic activity involving UCL individuals and a partner based in Paris and/or Stockholm. 2022/23 round now closed.

Partner Funds

A number of funding streams are available to support joint projects between UCL academics and those at UCL's key global partner institutions. In most cases, global partners have matched the funds committed by UCL for these funding streams, meaning larger overall pots of funding are available. 2022/23 round now closed.

Support for external global research funding

UCL provides support to help identify and develop strong research proposals for global research funding in low- and middle-income countries. This includes support and advice for Official Development Assistance (ODA) funded research activity. Find out more about the support and advice available to researchers via the Global Research Funding pages.

Please note that some external funding calls are subject to an institutional cap. If so, applications must be referred to the relevant Research Facilitation or Coordination Office for your School that leads UCL’s internal selection processes. You should also seek approval from your department and Research Services in line with the usual approval process.
