Department for Environment and Community Health

Leading innovation in climate, communities and implementation science.

The Department for Environment and Community Health encompasses four Centres at IGH.

The Centre for Global Health Economics is a world leader in economic evaluations; informing priority setting and health financing strategies, causal inference and impact evaluation, and creating a better understanding of population behaviour to realise equitable health and well-being outcomes.

With an emphasis on intervention development, implementation and evaluation, the Centre for Global Non-communicable Diseases is leading population-based and health-systems research and education to understand and respond to the burden and distribution of chronic non-communicable diseases, risk factors and multiple long-term conditions (‘multimorbidity’) globally.

The Centre for Pragmatic Global Health Trials innovates in trial design and analysis, supporting high quality trials to evaluate interventions across all regions and all areas of health, with a particular focus on cluster randomised trials. Our current key strategic priority is to work across our expertise to address the wide-ranging challenges that our changing climate will pose to our communities, our health systems and our wellbeing.

The Centre for Climate Change, Conflict and Health is pioneering research to reliably measure and document the health impacts of climate change, conflict and other challenges, to develop and monitor the implementation of effective interventions to protect and improve health outcomes, particularly in fragile and humanitarian contexts.
