Piloting PLA in the UK: Mobilising Communities to Prevent NCDs

Project Summary

In order to address the rise in diabetes and other NCDs we will adapt and pilot a proven community mobilisation intervention: the Participatory Learning Action (PLA) cycle, has been proven to dramatically reduce rates of diabetes in low-income settings. Through meetings and engagement with interested stakeholders and formative research we will adapt the PLA model to the UK setting.

We will create an adapted group manual, recruit group facilitators and over six-months group meetings following the PLA cycle will run in selected areas of London. Over this period we will conduct a process evaluation to assess the acceptability of the intervention and examine if and how change has of has not occurred.
