UCL Centre for Clinical Research in Infection and Sexual Health

The Centre for Clinical Research in Infection and Sexual Health aims to improve the treatment and prevention of infectious diseases, particularly sexually transmitted infections, and to promote improvements in sexual health.  We investigate a wide range of interventions, from the use of antiviral agents, antibiotics, and vaccines, to behavioural interventions.  Our work includes studies of the pathogenesis and natural history of disease, population-level treatment effects and strategies to improve testing and early diagnosis.

Strategic Priorities

Research

  • To continue to develop and lead a programme of clinical research to address the highest priority research questions in sexual health, HIV and other infectious diseases.
  • To collaborate with others in UCL, our associated NHS organisations, and our external partners to develop and deliver multicentre intervention studies, including  service evaluations, using a range of study designs.

Engagement

  • To improve the delivery of studies by working with our partners to reduce the time to first participant enrolment and by increasing the proportion of the eligible population who are offered access to studies.
  • To expand our portfolio of studies and maximize opportunities offered, by working with other groups in IGH, in the wider UCL community and our partner Trusts.

Teaching

  • To support teaching and training in clinical research in infectious diseases and sexual health.
  • To contribute to the undergraduate and masters level teaching in infection and sexual health in IGH; to maximise the opportunities to attract postgraduate research students and training fellowships to work with us.
