Global Justice and Equity

This thematic engages in normative inquiry on global governance, exploring mechanisms and instruments which may enhance legitimacy, transparency, accountability, fairness and equity.

Global Justice and Ethics
As a reaction to the limitations of the liberal globalisation orthodoxy, there is a growing interest in normative issues, embodied in terms such as legitimacy, transparency, accountability, and fairness. This research thematic engages in normative inquiry on democratic legitimacy in global governance structures, defined as the acceptance and justification of shared rule by a community. It also contributes to an emergent research agenda on the mechanisms and instruments which may enhance these values at the global level, enabling stakeholders to hold those that govern accountable for their actions.
