Nick Hughes

Dr Nick Hughes is Associate Professor in Sustainable Resource Governance at the UCL Institute for Sustainable Resources. He leads the GGI's thematic on Global Environmental Sustainability.

Dr Nick Hughes is Associate Professor in Sustainable Resource Governance at the UCL Institute for Sustainable Resources (Bartlett School of Environment, Energy and Resources). 

Research summary:

Nick's research encompasses low carbon energy and sustainable resource use, considering technological and social solutions with a view to producing policy relevant recommendations. He has engaged with topics including hydrogen, CCS, renewable innovation policy, electricity networks and sustainable resource use, working with organisations including Ofgem, the Committee on Climate Change and UN Environment's International Resource Panel. Nick is also interested in analysing the longer term future trajectories of sustainable transitions, through methods and frameworks including quantitative modelling, futures and scenarios concepts and transitions theories. 

Biography:

Nick completed a BA in Music at the University of Oxford, followed by an MSc in Environmental Technology, specialising in Energy Policy, at Imperial College London. He also did his PhD at Imperial College, examining the role of the electricity transmission networks in future low carbon scenarios for the UK. Nick has worked as an energy policy researcher at the Policy Studies Institute, King's College London, and the UCL Institute for Sustainable Resources.
