The GGI joins H2020 collaborative 'GLOBE' project on future scenarios in global governance

GGI directors Professor David Coen and Dr Tom Pegram were awarded a Horizon 2020 project, as part of a consortium led by the Institut Barcelona d’Estudis Internacionals (IBEI).
The 'Global Governance and the European Union: Future Trends and Scenarios' (GLOBE) project started on the 1st of January 2019. It is framed under the challenge Europe in a changing world - Inclusive, innovative and reflective societies in the Governance for the Future section of the EU's Horizon 2020 programme.
Professor David Coen (GGI Director) and Dr Tom Pegram (GGI Deputy Director) represent UCL in an academic consortium of 10 partners from 8 countries, coordinated by the Institut Barcelona d’Estudis Internacionals (IBEI). The GLOBE consortium includes:

GLOBE will approach the issues defined as strategic priorities in the 2016 EU Global Strategy: trade and development, security, the politics of climate change, migration and global finance, aiming to identify the major roadblocks for effective and coherent global governance, by multiple stakeholders, and in a multi-polar world. The project will will run a budget of 2.5 million euros over the next three and a half years. It will provide policy-makers, academics and the general public with an analytical grip on the state of play in global governance by developing new theoretical and methodological approaches. It also hopes to equip national and European policy-makers with tools to identify constraints and possibilities in several global governance scenarios in 2030 and 2050.
The GGI will lead on the climate change work package and also provide input on a cross-cutting work package on global governance, which will focus on how the EU and other global governance institutions can respond to growing legitimacy and accountability challenges.
