Mass protests and other new forms of activism have spread across the world in recent years. Richard Youngs’ new book Civic Activism Unleashed examines the factors driving this 'age of rage', assesses whether the emerging activism is effective, and speculates on whether or not it is likely to leave any long-term impact on global politics. His findings suggest that while some emerging civic activism is highly confrontational, some of it offers the potential for practical cooperation between governments and civil society.
