Director

Professor Nora Colton is the Director of the UCL Global Business School of Health. She is a health and development economist with extensive experience in change management and strategy. Previous to this role she was the  UCL Pro-Vice-Provost (Postgraduate Education) and Joint Director of Education at the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology and Moorfields Eye Hospital. 

She has been a Professor of International Economics at Drew University, USA; Dean of Business and Deputy Vice Chancellor at University of East London (UEL), UK; and a visiting professor in the School of Public Administration at the University of Electronic Science and Technology (UESTC), Chengdu, China as well as the American University in Beirut (AUB), Lebanon. She holds a doctorate from University of Oxford, UK.

She also has studied and taught at a number of leading universities including Harvard University; W. P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University; American University in Cairo; American University in Beirut and Barcelona Business School at University Pompeu Fabra, Spain. She also holds a certificate in Change Management from Cornell University in the USA.

She has been the recipient of a serial Fulbright and a Carnegie Foundation grant to conduct fieldwork in the Middle East. 

She is the author of numerous journal articles concerned with Middle Eastern economics and politics.  She is also co-author of a book with Elsevier Press entitled Middle East Finance: Missed-opportunities or Future Prospects and has a book forthcoming with Palgrave-Macmillan on the political economy of Yemen.  She has also been a series editor of a book series on Middle East Economics through Palgrave-Macmillan. More recently, she conducts research and publishes on healthcare management and strategic leadership.

She has a particular interest in change management as it relates to the healthcare sector and has designed programmes and taught on healthcare management postgraduate degree programmes as well as health related executive education and training programmes.

Ruth Kennedy - Chair, UCL GBSH External Board and Brand Consultant

Ruth Kennedy is a brand consultant advising clients in the luxury goods and services sectors to meet their business development objectives. From 2006 to 2009 she served as head of Quinlan Private UK, a real estate and private equity group managing commercial and residential properties in Europe including luxury hotels. Before that position, Ruth was 16 years with David Linley and Co., the bespoke furniture and design business.

She began her career at S.G. Warburg as an investment banker. Ruth is a non-executive director on the boards of Daylesford Organic, Bamford, Value Retail (the owners of Bicester Village), and until 2019 on the public board of Belmond Hotels. In 2009 Ruth founded the Louis Dundas Centre for Children’s Palliative Care at Great Ormond Street Hospital and UCL Institute of Child Health and is a Patron of the Elton John AIDS Foundation.

Fiona Adshead - Chair of the Sustainable Healthcare Coalition, UCL Alumni

Fiona chairs the Sustainable Healthcare Coalition that inspires partnerships and action on sustainable healthcare. She also works as an independent expert advisor and board member for national and global organisations on wellbeing and sustainability. Fiona is also a visiting Professor at UCL and teaches at the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership. 

She is a high-profile wellbeing and public health leader with a track record of reframing thinking and developing innovative strategy and programmes at the heart of business and government. Her previous roles include Deputy Chief Medical Officer and Director General in the UK Government, Director of Chronic Disease and Health Promotion at the World Health Organisation and Bupa’s Chief Wellbeing Officer.

Simon Hammett - Retired Senior Partner at Deloitte (Healthcare and Life Sciences practice in Europe), UCL Alumni

Simon Hammett was a Senior Partner at Deloitte LLP. He led the Healthcare and Life Sciences practice in Europe and was the CEO of the Strategy Consulting business. Simon operated at executive level with the Firm’s most prestigious clients in the consumer health, pharmaceuticals and medical devices sectors.

He provided advice on commercial strategy, organisation design and merger-integration. Under Simon’s leadership, the practice achieved significant growth and he built a talented team of Partners all passionate about making an impact that mattered for clients and their patients.

Simon “retired” from Deloitte in 2016, completed an MSc in Industrial, Organisational and Business Psychology at UCL and now operates as a Board advisor and leadership coach. He is a Trustee with several leading healthcare charities.

Graham Hart - Co-Director of UCL Health of the Public

Professor Graham Hart was the inaugural Dean of the Faculty of Population Health Science. He is now the Co-Director of UCL Health of the Public.

Graham is a Professor of Sexual Health & HIV Research and his research interests include sexual risk behaviour and the prevention of HIV and STIs, combining structural, behavioural and biomedical approaches to prevention and the opportunities afforded by new prevention technologies. He has worked with a wide range of populations at risk of HIV and STIs, nationally and internationally.

Jitinder Saini - Senior Vice President and Head of Medical Affairs for EMEA, UCL Alumni

Dr Jit Saini is Senior Vice President and Head of Medical Affairs for EMEA, a role he has held since 2017. Jit initiated, led and ran the Medical 2020 program that started in 2017, which culminated in the transformation of the Medical Affairs function at Merck.

Prior to this role, he acted as the Global Chief of Staff and Head of the Strategy Realisation Office within Merck KGaA Darmstadt Germany, where he was a member of the Healthcare Executive Committee.

Jit studied medicine and achieved his postgraduate qualifications from London teaching hospitals, including The Royal Free, Kings College and University College London. Prior to entering the pharmaceutical industry where he worked with companies such as Roche and Bristol-Myers Squibb, Jit specialized in hepatology and gastroenterology. 

Hari Kumar - Entrepreneurial pharmaceutical executive, UCL Alumni

Hari Kumar is a pharmaceutical executive with over 30 years of experience in the industry. 

He started his pharmaceutical career at Roche, before joining Amira Pharmaceuticals before becoming the Chief Executive Officer of Adheron Therapeutics. Since then, Hari has been actively involved in helping Biotech start-ups either as an independent Board member or as consultant. He is currently Chairman of the Board of Kinarus AG, on the Board of TRIO Inc, advisor to Mantra Bio, Inc. and Pliant Therapeutics, Inc. 

Having completed his PhD as an immunologist at University College London, Hari completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Tufts New England Medical Center in Boston and another fellowship at the Marie Curie Cancer Research Centre in UK.

Chris Outram - Founder and former Chairman of OC&C Strategy Consultant and UCL GBSH Visiting Professor

Chris Outram is the Founder and Chairman Emeritus of the OC&C Strategy Consultants partnership and a Visiting Professor at UCL GBSH. After graduating from INSEAD Business School, Chris worked with the Boston Consulting Group and then moved onto a new position as a Marketing and Strategy Director. Chris then joined Booz Allen & Hamilton as a strategy consultant and was elected Partner of the firm in 1986.

In January 1987, Chris co-founded OC&C Strategy Consultants which operates out of multiple offices in 7 countries around the world and boasts over 500 consultants.  OC&C is one of the world’s premier specialist strategy consulting firms, with many of the world’s leading companies amongst its client base. 

He has also Chaired three other organisations over the last five years – a small but very high growth technology company, the U.K.’s leading eating disorders charity, as well as a relatively new and high growth (~35% p.a.) charity which brings education to  ‘un-reached’ children around the world at a very low cost. It now serves more than 20,000 children across three countries.

Chris approached UCL in 2016 with the idea for the concept of a global business school for health that has now been taken forward by UCL.

Dr. Ali Parsa - CEO and Founder, Babylon Health, UCL Alumni

Dr Ali Parsa is a British-Iranian healthcare entrepreneur and engineer. He’s the founder and CEO of Babylon, the revolutionary artificial intelligence and digital health company. Babylon’s mission is to put an accessible and affordable health service in the hands of every person on earth.

Dr Parsa was listed in The Times 100 people to watch. The Health Service Journal recognised him as one of the ‘50 most influential people in UK healthcare’. He was featured in the Maserati 100, a list that recognises game-changing entrepreneurs who are disrupting the world of business. The Independent Healthcare Awards presented Dr Parsa with an Entrepreneurial Achievement award. He is also a UK Cabinet Office Ambassador for Mutuals and has a PhD in Engineering Physics.

Bing Song - Vice President of the Berggruen Institute (in charge of the China Centre, PKU) and former senior executive at Goldman Sachs China

Bing Song is a Vice President of the Berggruen Institute and Director of the Institute’s China Centre.

Prior to joining the Berggruen Institute, Ms. Song was a senior executive with Goldman Sachs China for over a decade, with varying roles such as General Counsel and COO of the China business and finally, General Manager of Goldman Sachs’ joint venture securities firm in China.

Prior to Goldman, Ms. Song practised international securities law for many years in Hong Kong. Earlier in her career, Bing undertook academic and policy research and published in the areas of administrative law, competition law and comparative procedural laws.

Dr David Walcott - Novamed Managing Director and Founder

David is a Medical Doctor (MD., Ph.D., MSc.) and Entrepreneur who is committed to bringing world-class healthcare to the Caribbean & Latin America, He is the Founder of Novamed, a healthcare firm actioning best-practices and global insights through portfolio companies spanning healthcare services, medical education & health innovation.

He is Founding Partner of The Visionaries’ Summit, an opportunity exchange platform convening a community controlling US$140 billion in equity that has seeded over US$300 million in investments in the Caribbean.

He has been recognized by Forbes, World Economic Forum, the United Nations and the IMF and is currently a member of the WEF Global Future Council & Young Global Leader communities. His academic profile includes Oxford, INSEAD, Harvard & the Rhodes Scholarship.

Soroosh Shambayati, Director, Time Boost Capital

Soroosh Shambayati was born in Tehran, Iran and was educated in Sweden and United States. He received a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and Chemistry from Occidental College, Masters of Science and Philosophy degrees from Yale University and a PhD from Harvard University. His PhD work, under the supervision of Professor Stuart Schreiber, covered the total synthesis of Epoxydictymene, design of Targeted Inhibitors for the HLA-B27 and the structural properties of Silyl Ethers.

Dr. Shambayati’s career in finance commenced at Bankers Trust in New York. He then moved to Goldman Sachs as a member of the Fixed Income Arbitrage Group focusing on Emerging Markets. More recently, he was Global Chairman of Emerging Markets at Nomura International and Global co-Head of Sales and Trading at Renaissance Capital in Moscow.

As a shareholder and partner of LJ Partnership (now Alvarium Investments), Dr. Shambayati helped grow the wealth management business by structuring and negotiating various mergers and acquisition deals, most notably with Guggenheim Investment Advisors. He continues to advise a select group of families on their investments. 

In 2019 he co-founded AIBEAM Labs, a research firm exploring a combination of behavioural science and machine learning tools in construction of investment portfolios. He currently divides his time between Singapore, Geneva and London.

Michael Allen - Partner & Head of Health & Human Services, KPMG

Michael is the Global Lead for Health and Care Workforce Solutions at KPMG, a role which gives him oversight and understanding of the activities underway in 38 countries to address the global workforce shortage. Michael also leads the Health and Human Services Consulting Team in the UK.

Michael recently led work with the Northern Care Alliance to develop an integrated activity, cost and workforce model. This model allows the Trust to forecast its’ future workforce requirements for over 300 roles with a high degree of accuracy based on service demand, planned changes to its service model and it’s digital strategy.
In March and April 2020, Michael led work on Nightingale London (Excel) and then Nightingale Yorkshire & Humber. During a 13 day period, KPMG mobilised over 200 people to work alongside the NHS, the military and contractors to build the largest ventilated unit in the world in the Excel conference centre. His specific responsibilities during this time included the translation of the clinical model into a workforce model and securing agreement to it with the Heads of the Professions for England. This model was subsequently replicated across England. In parallel. Michael led the team which created the new Clinical Support Worker role with NHS Employers and recruited over 500 civilians to it; and worked alongside Health Education England (HEE) to induct, orientate and train over 3500 people for over 50 different roles. 
In 2019/20, Michael led a large, nation-wide programme of work for the NHS in England to develop the System Workforce Improvement Model (SWIM) and deploy it in a number of Integrated Care Systems. The findings from this work have been used to inform the NHS People Plan. He is currently advising the Department of Health & Social Care on workforce reform.

In the last two years, Michael has also helped establish the Centre for Workforce Development in Bradford and the Leeds Health & Care Academy; two separate partnerships between employers and educational providers to develop the pipeline of health staff and help those already working in the sector to operate at the top of their licence.  

In 2014, Michael was awarded the Management Consulting Association (MCA) Award for Public Sector Improvement Programme of the Year for his work supporting the reconfiguration of services across Mid-Yorkshire Hospitals.

Prior to completing his MBA, Michael spent 11 years working in the NHS where he held a number of roles including Head of Primary Care for a Primary Care Trust, NHS Local Improvement Finance Trust (LIFT) Director for Leeds and Head of Operations at Leeds Teaching Hospitals. Michael is a visiting lecturer at University College London and a Non-Executive Director of Age UK (Leeds).

Sharan Ahluwalia - Business Leader Patchwork Health

Sharan is an experienced business leader with extensive consulting experience and deep healthcare knowledge. Following a BSc. from University College London, Sharan worked at PA Consulting Group as a Management Consultant for several years, developing experience in directing multiple large scale transformation programmes for the public sector. This included working with the NHS North West London Strategy and Transformation Team, where Sharan worked across multiple boroughs on alignment to a regional strategy for health and care. Following an MSc. in International Healthcare Management at Imperial College Business School, Sharan joined health tech startup, Patchwork Health, who provide innovative workforce management platforms for healthcare providers. Sharan's role at Patchwork has evolved to cover operational leadership of the team, to product strategy, and now focused on developing a consulting proposition for the organisation. 

Silvia Cerolini – CEO, Eyes on the Future

Silvia is an experienced leader with 16+ years operational and strategic experience in the Pharma and Consumer Goods industries with focus on innovation, data and analytics. 
She currently leads the Health Informatics Rare Disease team at Sanofi UK.  Her goal is to leverage Data and Artificial Intelligence to accelerate diagnostics of patients with rare diseases and significantly reduce the diagnostic odyssey.

Silvia is also a successful social entrepreneur. Since her daughter was diagnosed with an ultra rare eye disease leading to blindness, Silvia has been actively advocating for advancing treatments for inherited retinal dystrophies. She funded Eyes on the Future, a UK based charity, aiming to accelerate research for her daughter's disease. She leads the global patient organization catalyzing collaboration between academia, industry and patients. Her work led to several publications and, most importantly, concrete progress towards potential treatments. Her efforts have been featured in national and international press including BBC, Vanity Fair, London Evening Standard.

Silvia is extremely passionate about the role of innovation and data in transforming health care especially for patients with rare diseases. She is very excited about engaging with the next generation leaders at UCL Global Business School about the impact that business skills can make in health care and life science. 

 

Mark Fountain - CEO, Healthcare Business Solutions

Mark Fountain is an accomplished Healthcare professional, having acted as Hospital Director, COO and CEO for various Healthcare businesses across the world and having run numerous hospitals. Mark founded Healthcare Business Solutions (UK) Limited (HBSUK) in 2012 and the company has just celebrated its 10-year anniversary. As founder and CEO, Mark has led this business from humble beginnings to be a leading business in providing physical (clinics and surgical procedures) and digital solutions, via the company’s own Virtual LucyTM assessment and treatment platform. Services are provided to the NHS and private providers, including the UK’s largest private medical provider, AXA, whereby HBSUK provides services for MSK and Dermatology. HBSUK now employs more than 50 full-time people plus over 1000 part-time healthcare professionals (consultants, nurses, AHP’s) and runs an almost entirely virtual business with a net positive carbon footprint. Mark’s understanding of the UK healthcare market is second to none.

Chris Gibbons - Director of Digital Health & Technology Transformation at KPMG

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Chris is a Director at KPMG leading the UK Digital Health Practice. He is passionate about the opportunities presented by digital to improve access, experience and outcomes for patients and the health and care workforce.

Chris has worked at national level and with healthcare providers for over a decade. He sits on the Board of a VCSE Mental Health Provider delivering IAPT services across England and specialist services in the North East. Chris has led on digital strategy, road-mapping and large-scale delivery engagement for several national services including ERP, digital workplace, cyber security, and infrastructure services. His experience at local level has focused on Clinical Systems Transformation and Digital Strategy development. 

Chris studied at Durham University and lives in Cumbria; where he can often be found ticking off the Wainwrights or Paddleboarding in the Lake District.

Toby Goldblatt - Co-Founder, Pivot Digital Health

Toby is the Co-Founder of Health Tech scale-up Pivot Digital Health. His 25-year career has included periods as EVP/SVP in Tech corporates (Accenture/Avanade; Atos; CACI) and as a founder of startups and advocate and ally for rare talent from across the world, both through his own initiative and via supporting progressive organisations (Teens in AI; Microsoft Education; Junior Achievement; Princes Trust).

In recent years, he has led and worked on some ground breaking Health Tech programs (WHO / Covid; Norwegian Health Data Platform; Digitisation of NHS Trusts; AI for Genomics England & NHS Blood & Transplant; Covid Virtual Agents for Governments of Catalunya and India; Digital Therapeutics). He has also extensive experience supporting leading Biopharma (Novartis; Roche; Sanofi; GSK etc) to enhance their capabilities. Dr Joanne M. Hackett - Head of Genomic and Precision Medicine at IQVIA

Joanne is the Head of Genomic and Precision Medicine at IQVIA and previously was the Chief Commercial Officer at Genomics England.

Dr Linda Harris - CEO, Spectrum

Dr. Linda Harris OBE FRCGP is the founding Chief Executive and Chief Medical Officer of Spectrum Community Health CIC, a not-for-profit organisation delivering a range of community and health and Justice services on behalf of the NHS, Local Authority and other partners in sites across the North of England. She is also the current chair of the Clinical Reference Group for Health and Justice for NHS England.

Dimitris is the former CEO of a management consulting firm and sits on the board of advisors of a number of US companies. Sean Lybrand - Executive Director, International Health Systems Policy, Amgen Inc

Mr Lybrand is Executive Director, International Health Systems Policy with Amgen, and is based in Amgen’s European hub in Switzerland. He is a highly experienced market access and health policy leader. He has over 20 years’ experience in health, having started his research and health outcomes-focused career in academia in Australia, preparing evidence-based reviews for the Cochrane Collaboration and undertaking health outcomes research in rheumatology. 

He has worked across many different regions, therapeutic areas and health care contexts, and has established a range of important partnerships in health, including with academic centres, digital health agencies, and national governments. A key personal highlight of his partnership work was the development and initiation of the first public-private partnership for HPV vaccination in the developing world- initiating a national HPV vaccination program in Bhutan which is ongoing and has recently passed its 12th anniversary.

Sean was previously a Board member of the Australian Cervical Cancer Foundation. Aside from his Amgen role, he has an appointment as Adjunct Fellow at the Centre for the Health Economy at Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia. He holds a BA, BSc and MPH from the University of Queensland (AU) and a Graduate Certificate in Health Economics from Curtin University (AU).

Justin Mason-Home, Owner/Director, HPAPI Project Services Limited

Justin Mason-Home is an organic chemist with extensive health, safety, environmental and chemical engineering experience in senior technical, legal and commercial aspects of the pharmaceutical, biochemical, chemical and other industries. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry in the United Kingdom.

Justin started as a research chemist in the flavour and fragrance sector, researching and discovering new chemical synthetic routes to produce nature-identical flavour and fragrance components. In the fine chemical sector, he worked through R&D, scale-up (Kilo Lab then Pilot Plant) to full-scale manufacture. After a move to corporate environmental management, Justin was head-hunted into environmental consulting, heading a technical environmental engineering function.

Johanna Moss - Director of Strategy at Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

Jo is an experienced health leader with 20 years of operational and strategic experience within the NHS who is passionate about improving population health in partnership with residents and staff. She has extensive experience of leading strategy development, large scale clinical transformation programmes and complex new hospital projects working at Provider, Regional and National level. 

Jo is currently the director of strategy and partnerships at Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust where she is accountable for marketing and communications, external relations, strategy development and Oriel – a complex £0.5bn new build and transformation partnership project with UCL and Moorfields Eye Charity.

Jo is a military veteran and completed a six-month tour of active service in Afghanistan.

Rachel Murphy - Public speaker, health tech advisor, investor

Since leaving the NHS, Rachel has brought her passion for good services for all, bringing user needs, service design, and actual delivery together for clients. Ben Osborn - Regional President Hospital, International Developed Markets, Pfizer  

After graduating from Leeds University Ben joined Pfizer in 1998, where his career has taken him through a variety of leadership roles both in the UK and internationally. 

In recent years Ben served as Chief Marketing Officer across Europe, Japan, Korea and ANZ where he led the digital transformation of the commercial organisation and innovative partnerships across the sector. He is passionate about organisational culture and purpose to ensure patients benefit from breakthrough innovation and science. Most recently he was the UK Country Manager and Managing Director for Pfizer UK, leading the organisation through unprecedented times of opportunity to bring science, data and technology together to transform healthcare. He led the UK roll out of Pfizer’s Covid19 vaccine and antiviral, working closely with government and the NHS.

In January 2022, Ben was appointed Regional President, Hospital Business for the International Developed Markets region (57 countries across the globe), where he is responsible for Pfizer’s Infectious disease medicines and specialist hospital medicines.

Ben served as President of the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry from May 2021 to April 2022 leading the industry through a critical period for the sector and represented UK industry on a number of committees with government and NHS. Dr Jing Ouyang - COO and Co-Founder of Patchwork Health

Dr. Karen Prins - COO, Circle Health Group

Karen is the Chief Operating Officer for Circle Health Group. Prior to this appointment, she held the position of Chief Executive Officer of BMI Healthcare in the UK, as well as a number of senior roles within Netcare in South Africa. 

She has extensive experience in managing multisite hospital operations, the implementation of large-scale capital investment projects and turnaround interventions. Dr. Anthony Renshaw - Regional Medical Director, EMEA Practice, International SOS

Dr. Anthony Renshaw is a chief medical officer to numerous global organisations, advising on public health, emergency response and corporate health. Since joining International SOS in 2008, he has worked widely across Europe, Africa and Asia-Pacific, and has overseen healthcare delivery platforms in both remote and urban health settings across the world including China, Mongolia, Russia, Korea, Japan, Australia and Papua New Guinea. Tiba Rao - Director of Innovation and Co-founder, Soar Beyond

Tiba’s background in sales and training with Eli Lilly and change management consultancy with Accenture has helped shape the services and solutions that Soar Beyond innovates to overcome resistance to change and transformation in the health system, particularly related to medicines. Soar Beyond is now an established digital health provider consultancy with an extensive client base of both NHS and pharmaceutical companies.

Rubén Rojas - CEO Fractal EDM

Rubén Rojas is the Chief Executive Officer of Fractal EDM, a company dedicated to the economic analysis of health care. His professional background is extensive, starting from corporate finance and strategy in his early career, moving later to clinical epidemiology, biostatistics, and health economics in the last ten years.

In his role as CEO since 2016, he has led Fractal EDM to stay in the research frontier of health economics and apply a solid perspective of corporate and finance strategy, using all the available tools to strengthen the company's competitive advantage. The focus on innovation for their products and services is the reason for continuous growth and expansion to new markets since their start.

Alongside his executive role in Fractal EDM, he was an advisor to the Chilean Ministry of Health (2018-2019) and a former member of the health reform committee appointed by the President of Chile (2018).

His professional background started in 1996 with a BSc in Business Administration. After 15 years working in corporate finances, he decided to move to a more socially oriented career, choosing health as his next challenge. Emmeline Roodenburg - HMG VP of Strategy at Dr. Sulaiman AL Habib Medical Group

Emmeline is HMG VP of Strategy at Dr. Sulaiman AL Habib Medical Group. The largest provider of comprehensive healthcare services in the Middle East and a publicly listed company. She was previously the Head of Healthcare at KPMG Saudi.

At the age of 23, she finished her dual masters in Law and Economics from the University of Utrecht in the Netherlands, following which she began her career in finance.

Dr. Anthony (Tony) Sedgwick - Life Science Strategist/Scientific Advisor

Dr. Anthony (Tony) Sedgwick is an experienced biotech executive, bringing over 40 years of international experience in the sector to Emergex. He was head of anti-inflammatory Biology at Roche between 1986-1990, and after a 2 year period in Marketing at Roche became Global Head of Clinical operations until 2002.

At Roche, Tony was responsible for clinical development, leading to the launch of several products including Invirase® and Tamiflu® which have had significant impact both medically and commercially.

During the past few years, Tony has specialised in ‘trusted’ advisor roles for CEOs and heads of R&D.Tony holds a PhD in Experimental Pathology from St Bartholomew’s Hospital Medical School in London and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists and an honorary Professor at Swansea University Medical School.

Sara Siegel - Lead Partner for Healthcare, Deloitte UK and North and South Europe

Sara leads Deloitte’s Health Practice in the UK and across North and South Europe. This encapsulates the firm’s work with the NHS in the UK and with public sector healthcare clients across Europe. Sara’s passion for health began when she first moved to the UK in 2003 and was first exposed to the NHS.  

Sara believes passionately in the mission of the NHS and sees the incredible value that a health service free at the point of need provides to society. With her teams, she supports the NHS to do more and better with the resources at its disposal. Some of Sara’s work includes supporting the government on its Coronavirus testing programme, and the introduction of robotic and cognitive automation to improve the speed and quality of NHS services and to release more time for direct patient care. Professor Brian D Smith - Founder Pragmedic

Professor Brian D Smith is a world-recognised authority on the evolution of the life sciences industry. After gaining his undergraduate degree in chemistry from Newcastle University, he worked in the industry for 20 years in R&D, marketing and strategy roles before moving into academia. His PhD, at Cranfield University, uncovered why some firms make strong strategies and others don’t. Suzanne Wait is Co-Founder and Managing Director of The Health Policy Partnership, a health policy research consultancy based in London. She has over 20 years experience in health policy research, analysis and advice, working across Europe and globally across all sectors within health. Her expertise is in creating and leading multistakeholder partnerships to drive policy change. A systems thinker, her approach is deeply rooted in public health and policy training, and is multidisciplinary.

Suzanne has a BSc from McGill University, a Masters of Public Health from Columbia University and a PhD in Public Health from the University of Strasbourg. She is Visiting Lecturer at UCL’s Global Business School for Health, where she teaches Health Policy and Practice on the MBA and Executive Education programmes.

Philip Welsh - Executive Director, Organisational Development, Change and Transformation

Phillip has over 22 years’ experience gained primarily across the UK, Europe, and Middle East healthcare sectors.  In addition, he has also held key appointments within the UK Cabinet Office (Whitehall), Local Government Organisations and UK private sector in the successful delivery of politically challenging and culturally complex OD, Talent and Change interventions.   

A psychology graduate with membership of British Psychological Society he also has a Masters in HRM and is due to complete a Professional Doctorate in 2023.  Phillip also holds numerous international professional Fellowships including the Royal Society of Arts.  (RSA)

Phillip is currently based in Riyadh in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, supporting the worlds largest healthcare transformation program involving over three hundred healthcare facilities and 250,000 staff.
