What’s your name and which country are you from?

My name is Dr Orlanda Allen, and I am from England.

What motivated you to pursue MBA Health at UCL GSBH?

I did a Masters in Medical Leadership which inspired me to want to challenge myself further and gain more knowledge of business. I wanted to make the transition from a Clinician to Healthcare Management and I thought an MBA in Health could support this.

How has the UCL GSBH MBA Health programme enhanced your skills and knowledge in the field of healthcare management?

My knowledge has grown as well as my confidence in understanding and analysing complex healthcare issues. I have learnt new skills which have given me the tools to understand the ‘business’ side of health.

Could you share any course-related experiences that have significantly influenced your learning journey?

The Global Health Challenge was a stand out for me. I was priveledged to visit Saudi Arabia and meet so many interesting key players in their healthcare systems. Their digital transformation is next level! We witnessed history being made with a trip to Neom. Experiencing the local culture was also very fun.

Another amazing experience is working alongside my course mates from different countries, I have learnt so much from everyone.

What advice would you give to prospective international students considering applying to the MBA Health programme at UCL GBSH?

Go for it! Do your research on to different courses to ensure this is the right course for you. It is worth looking at the course content and attending an open evening. I would also recommend speaking to people that have completed the MBA Health programme to get their first hand experience.

It is hard work, but worth the effort! It gives exposure and understanding to so many different aspects of healthcare and there are some excellent speakers. A really valuble part is networking and meeting like-minded people.

Lastly, what are your future career aspirations and how is the MBA Health programme helping you shape your career trajectory?

I would like to become a senior leader in healthcare, contributing to large scale change and disrupting the status quo to improve quality of services and patient experience. The MBA has supported me along the way and I have received a promotion whilst undertaking the course. I have found the support and feedback from coaches is invaluable to growing my confidence and progressing my career.
