Starting university can be both exciting and nerve-wracking, especially when it comes to understanding the academic expectations and standards of your chosen course. Therefore, in this blog, we will explore the academic standards, grading system, and course structure to succeed academically.
Understanding the Academic Standards
Global Healthcare Management (Analytics) at UCL Global Business School for Health is a dynamic and multidisciplinary program that equips students with the skills to make data-driven decisions in the healthcare industry. Academic standards are high, and students are encouraged to maintain a strong work ethic, intellectual curiosity, and a commitment to learning. To excel in this program, students should be prepared for a challenging yet rewarding academic journey. Critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication skills are highly valued. The curriculum is designed to offer a holistic understanding of healthcare systems, data analysis, and management principles, requiring students to engage actively in discussions and contribute to group projects.
Grading System
UCL GBSH mainly uses a percentage-based grading system instead of the traditional letter grade system. This system provides a more precise evaluation of a student's performance and helps them understand their strengths and areas for improvement in greater detail.
The grading scale typically follows these percentages:
70% - 100%: Distinction
60% - 69%: Merit
50% - 59%: Pass
Below 50%: Fail
Keep in mind that grades are not the sole reflection of your abilities; they are tools to gauge your progress and should motivate you to keep striving for excellence.
Course Structure
Apart from comprehending the grading system, students must acquaint themselves with the structure and requirements of the course. UCL GBSH offers diverse and specialised programmes, each with its unique set of modules, credit hours, and prerequisites. By thoroughly understanding these aspects, students can efficiently plan their academic journey and avoid last-minute surprises or pitfalls. Course programmes are carefully crafted to offer a well-rounded education. The curriculum combines core courses and practical experiences, providing a comprehensive backbone of knowledge and expertise needed in healthcare management and analytics.
