What I like about studying at UCL East
1 December 2022
UCL GBSH Social Media Ambassador Ran Mo shares his favourite things about studying at the brand new UCL East campus.
Green space
UCL East's biggest advantage is the excellent natural environment and fresh air brought by more than 560 acres of green space in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. From playing frisbee on the lawn in the park, walking along the canals, or participating in community activities are great ways students studying at UCL East can have fun and relieve the stress of studying. Being surrounded by greenery enables quality self-reflective time and in my opinion, greater productivity for individuals. In addition, there are many professional sports facilities in the Olympic Park, e.g., 50m swimming, football pitches and badminton courts to name just a few. Venues are all within 5 minutes walking distance from the UCL East campus which is so handy.
Culture, culture, culture
Another plus of UCL East is the area's cultural diversity. Ten minutes of walking will take you from UCL East to Hackney Wick, which is home to numerous fine dining establishments, coffee shops, and bars. Additionally, it is an artistic neighbourhood with lots of artwork, street art and galleries. There are some excellent bookshops, thrift shops, and organic stores that are great for unwinding after class or finding a place to read and study.
Handy locations
UCL East is in a prime location in the heart of Stratford. The Elizabeth Line will get you into central London in just over 15 minutes, and Stratford also has the central line, Jubilee line, DLR, overground and national rail services running through it, allowing you to explore all of London and the South East of the UK easily. Weekend trips to Essex or Kent are only 30 minutes away by train!
Westfield shopping centre
The UCL East is very close to Westfield shopping centre. There are so many student-friendly restaurants in Westfield, as well as a cinema, plenty of coffee shops, clothes shops, and supermarkets. Having it right by the campus makes life very convenient for students studying at UCL East.
Modern teaching space
Finally, One Pool Street's (one of the UCL East campus buildings) cutting-edge teaching facilities are very impressive. One Pool Street houses shops, a cafe, cinema room, student apartments, classrooms, libraries, and plenty of learning spaces. At UCL East, there are also distinctive student activities that give me a fresh new experience and I really enjoy it, such as yoga classes.
