Interviewing my MSc Global Healthcare Management classmates!

20 December 2022

UCL GBSH MSc Global Healthcare Management (analytics route) student Intan chats to her coursemates about what they have learnt in their first term at the UCL Global Business School for Health

interviewing coursmates

As we near the end of the first term at the UCL Global Business School for Health (UCL GBSH), I thought I'd ask my coursemates on the MSc Global Healthcare Management (analytics route) one thing they have learned since joining the UCL GBSH.

Vanessa: The most important thing I have learned here is never to be afraid of asking questions. Generally speaking, I'm a person who is really afraid of making mistakes. Actually, the professors here are inclusive to allow us to make mistakes, so we can drop any questions in life or academics if we need clarification. I incredibly like the environment and culture here; without being afraid to ask questions, I could learn more from professors directly.

Haya: I have learned how to express myself and my ideas in an open and encouraging environment. In addition, I had the chance to learn a lot about students' different backgrounds and cultures.

Dania: I have learned that even though the healthcare sector is complex, and globally we face tremendous challenges, there is a way out. And it's the people. We are all studying, learning and working to overcome them. Excellent strategies, policies, and changes are designed daily to improve health care. We all dream about ensuring quality care for everyone worldwide, and I believe we will achieve it by studying in this programme.

Molly: It has enhanced my cultural inclusiveness, influenced my way of thinking, and made me relax and be myself more during my study.

Lin: My classmates all have different academic backgrounds; they studied medicine, nursing, accounting and finance, management, and marketing. Everyone here has their own strengths and expertise. I have learned a lot from them. In addition, UCL GBSH provides us with a wide range of resources and various exciting job search resources/societies. We can make a lot of interesting friends while completing our studies and improve our overall ability at the same time.

Hongjia: I have improved my communication skills a lot since studying at the UCL GBSh as we have a lot of group work and meetings.

Cassie: I have learned about the healthcare systems in different countries by doing a group project on several modules. It allowed me to discuss it with my peers. Since I have no clinical background, it's fascinating!

Joy: For me, GBSH creates an inclusive and diverse community that embraces our differences and gives me a sense of belonging. I also have the opportunity to network with industry experts in health for my professional development.

Cynthia (Xiao Xiong): So far I have gained professional knowledge and expanded my social network. Also, it can give opportunities to me to enjoy life in London.

Shu Ying: Since starting the MSc Global Healthcare Management course, I managed to combine my previous knowledge of economics and management with health management and gained insight into the role of economic evaluation in health technology assessment and how different economic evaluation methods can be used to analyze whether resources are being used appropriately.

Veronica: One thing I have learned since studying the MSc Global Healthcare Management programme is self-directed learning. As most of our lectures are presented in an online format, I have more freedom to organise my own time and pace of study. In addition, the seminars for each course are student-dominated, which enabled me to take the weekly readings more seriously and has developed my collaborative communication skills.

Rainie: It is inspiring to do the HTA agency exploration and presentation as a group. We must research all the HTA processes and economic evaluation of a country and put forward recommendations. I learned both teamwork skills and brand-new knowledge in this assessment.

Hui Ying: The most important thing I have learned is how to view things as a manager. Because before I join in this program, I usually viewed things as an employee instead of a manager. That’s quite different.
